Five Ways

to prevent "summer slide"

Concerned that your student may forget the things he/she learned in school during the year? The concept of "summer slide," argues Heather Wolpert-Gawron, is really "about packing away certain lessons in order to make room for others that are taught in different ways."

Suggestions for summer learning/preventing "summer slide":
1. Get a "job" (any activity that develops responsibility and skill)
2. Go to museums...and make a child-determined donation
3. Join age-appropriate clubs or groups
4. Travel anywhere you have the means to go
5. Read everything
